Are you looking for a flexible, part-time job that allows you to work from home while making a difference in your local community? Wembury Parish Council is seeking a Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) to join our team and play a vital role in managing the Council’s financial affairs.

About the Role

As our Finance Officer, you’ll work closely with the Parish Clerk, contractors, and councillors to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Council and successful delivery of key projects. While specific financial qualifications are not required, an eye for detail, a conscientious approach, and a willingness to learn are essential. Full training on our sector-specific accounts software will be provided, along with external training opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing monthly financial reports for the Council.
  • Ensuring all spending is pre-approved and compliant with Council policies.
  • Managing banking, including reconciliations, VAT reclaims, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Overseeing payments and ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Supporting internal and external audits by providing necessary data.
  • Writing financial reports to present project options, with clear breakdowns of financial information.
  • Sourcing quotes, managing grants and donations, and overseeing the precept.
  • Occasional posting on the website and social media platforms (training provided).
  • Attending occasional evening meetings in the parish (Approximately 3 times per year).

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A detail-oriented and proactive mindset.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and applying new skills.
  • Adequate space to store a small number of files, a printer, and Council materials at home.

 Additional Information:

  • You’ll receive an office allowance of £100/month to cover workspace costs, which also contributes to your home utilities (taxable).
  • You will be entitled to join the Local Government Scheme (LGPS) pension
  • This role requires storage of Council materials and maintaining a small, organised home office setup.
  • 23 days holiday entitlement, plus two statutory days and bank holidays (pro rata).
